Contact Yoga

Contact Yoga

Workshop

Presenter: NowHere Yoga
Suitable for: Adults only

Contact Yoga is a fun, diverse exploration of the wide range of possibilities for connecting with ourself through work with partners and groups. Combining elements of active yoga, contact improvisation, conscious relating exercises and partner meditations, together we’ll experience the therapeutic power of authentic connection.

This session draws on our experience with yoga, acroyoga, martial arts, somatic expression practices, massage, and partner meditations – as well as 6 years in intimate partnership, and experience in community building here in Spain! Using games and exercises, we will progressively dissolve barriers to connection while at the same time learning to strengthen and hold personal boundaries.

Working with the body, we will use partner yoga to ease tension patterns associated with defence physiology and teach participants how to beneficially support each other’s body health and yoga practice. We will learn useful positions for spinal tractioning and developing bio-mechanical intelligence, partner games that help build core strength and balance, and trust-building exercises for feeling confidence working in groups. We will also explore more subtle aspects of connection, including conscious and healing touch, energetic perception, and partner meditations such as eye gazing.

Throughout the session we will keep changing partners and group constellations, to give more dynamic flow and give participants a chance to experience moments of play and connection with a range of different people. This also means no partner is necessary, just an open-minded willingness to explore the session content with everyone else, fostering radical inclusivity.
