Matiu Te Huki

New Zealand,

Bio

Matiu Te Huki has been performing in bands around NZ for nearly twenty years. Matiu's messages in his music are positive, uplifting, inspiring and motivating. The music itself is soulful roots with haka and toanga puoro woven throughout.

One of Matiu’s stand out qualities is his contemporary expression of his Maori culture through his music. Bringing traditional Maori chants and movement back to life through modern music.

Matiu has performed with and recorded with artists such as Tiki Taane, Anika Moa, DLT, Fat Freddies drop, Rhombus, Pitch Black, Hori Buzz, Hikoikoi and more. He is known for his amazing vocal skills and power, his ability to connect to, hold and lift a crowd either whilst fronting a band, or as a solo artist.

He was the founding member of the popular roots band Homefire Burning and is currently still and member of Basscamp and his current band My Golden Soul.

Matiu has performed at the last 3 Luminate Festivals and has a strong following amongst the whanau up there. This year he is traveling with a band who have helped take his solo show to an even more powerful, full band show suitable for a high energy set.
