Mama Yeva

New Zealand,

Bio

Mama Yeva believe in the urgent need to change and are playing music for revolutionary awareness exploring different modes of music, flamenco, Latin African, Indian Arabic music. The melting pot of our music is the experience of a harmonious blending and dancing of cultures. In a world where our concept of the other has been at the heart of conflict Mama Yeva seeks to explore the universal aspects of our collective psyche and create peace through these dialogues
We are as a group deeply aware of the potential of music to transform our state of mind and being. That through musical expression we can connect in solidarity to a deep source of inspiration and creativity. Our lyrics focus consequently on our relationship to each other and to our natural environments that surround us.
This year we have some incredible musicians joining the world fusion line up this year, including jazz trumpet and pianist Trevor Coleman a 3 times Emmy Award nominated composer, master hand percussionist, udu player Jonathon Sheldon, the stunning cook islands vocalist Christine hundleby, joining with percussive and tribal elements A J Hickling, Carlos Riegelhaupt on acoustic bass and percussion, Jono Heyes at the core with west african and flamenco fusions on the guitar and vocals.Lisa Maia Ambrose with belly dance and contemporary dance fusions.

What makes you interested to perform at Luminate?

"We are interested to perform at Luminate at canaan downs because it’s a festival that really resonates with Mama Yeva’s ethos. The festival is a celebration of life in a deeper sense, of ecology. It is a platform from which we have loved over the years to share our love for this earth and community through our lyrics and our melodies. Beyond this we are eager to contribute to the festival by being there for the duration and giving of our love and wisdom." - jono heyes, Mama Yeva
