Raranga Harakeke - Te Awhi Rito Hou

ARTS & CULTURE WORKSHOPS

Basic Raranga Harakeke (flax weaving). Information covered will include how to gather harakeke, preparation and tikanga around working with harakeke. Starting with simple plaiting skills to create easy works. With 2 weavers working together, we plan to offer a few different options of what you can weave in 2 hours. For those who are keen to do more, we will be able to extend you in the second session!

 

Interactive Storytelling, Drumming, Dance and Song - Jimi Dale

KIDZ & YOUTH WORKSHOPS

An interactive story for kids where they will become part of an African tale. Kidz will learn drumming, singing and dancing that makes the story come alive. Parents welcome.

Ecstatic Presence - Diane Sparks

HOLISTIC WORKSHOPS

This is an active meditation, centred on guided movement, dance and stillness. It will help you to connect more deeply with your authentic self, and from that, connect to others. Some keywords: fun, play, release, depth, connection and Love.

The Yoga of Sound and Music - Claire Thompson

Wheel of Consent - Regan Pryor

HOLISTIC WORKSHOPS

Become aware of the energy dynamics when you meet someone and have an interaction. Who is taking, who is allowing, who is serving and accepting. These dynamics occur in every personal interaction and can be measured with the Wheel of Consent model created by Betty Martin. Explore gratitude, surrender, generosity, and integrity.

To understand Common law and Human Rights and their legal application, is to cut through layers of legislation and bureaucratic code. Become aware of the modes of deception increasingly being perpetrated upon us, and develop practical methods to assist in negating the erosion of liberty and freedom through peaceful methodologies.

Team Building for Teens - Courtney Brooke

KIDZ & YOUTH WORKSHOPS

Have an outrageously fun time connecting with each other through movement, games and group problem solving. These challenging activities will require communication, planning, perseverance, and a little bit of good humor. We'll have an exciting time while connecting our experiences back to real life situations and understanding the connections between ourselves and others a little better. Teens 13 to 17.

Do you know how Roald Dahl ended up in Africa? Inspired by these adventures, he wrote poems about Dirty Beasts! And what about your favourite Roald Dahl books? One of Dahl’s favourite things was confectionary, I will have you know. I shall tell you about all this and more… Come along and settle in for some wonderful tales and scary stories!

 

 

The Abundant Vegetable Garden - Sol Morgan

Wild Food & Medicine of Aotearoa ~ Rongoa - Jules Bright

See forest plants of New Zealand in a new light - as wild food and medicine. Look at foraging with 7-generation thinking, sacred connection and sustainability. Learn about different ways of preparing 3 of them as culinary delights and beverages with a chance to sample some. Bring a cup and try some native teas.

The Power of Sound – Sannyasin Atmabhava (Anahata Yoga Retreat)

Luminate's Live Stage offers an authentic, world class line-up of talented musicians, spanning many contemporary and traditional genres and artists who merge live music with digital/computer technology to forge new and exciting, integrated pathways of musical creativity and performance.

TheElectronic Zone line-up at Luminate 2015 is packed full of amazing international and local talent, pushing the boundaries of contemporary electronic genres, and providing a world class experience of diverse, cutting edge dance music. it's the only dedicated zone for 100% electronic music at Luminate.

Tribal hosts acoustic drumming & other native instruments in a wonderland of organic sculpture and much barefoot dancing around the fire. Bring your percussion, your fire toys, your inspiration and join in this sharing space.

The Chillout Lounge offers a comfortable place to chill out, lounge around, and enjoy a mug of chai or a bliss ball, whilst soothing atmospheric soundscapes permeate your cells and encourage a heightened state of quantum relaxation.

The Village Stage's pitch will have a powered stage with a couple of mics and speakers and be located in the food zone.

Inspirational Workshops

Luminate Festival offers a  wide selection of workshops like Permaculture, Bio Dynamics, Yoga, Aikido, Jikyo Jutsu, Qi Gong, Holistic health, Reflexology, Shiatsu, Native plant medicine, Harakeke, Maori Legends, African dance, to Belly dancing and lots more. At night a selection of enlightening movies & documentaries are screened.

Music workshops include Celtic guitar, Irish low whistle, Irish bouzouki, African drumming, Didgeridoo, songs of medieval Spain, Indian Vocalisation, Kirtan, Stagecraft, Improvisation, and Electronic music production using Abelton Live and Logic.

The dedicated Juggle-poi-toy circus zone hosts sessions on juggling, poi, staff, slackline, unicycling, stilts, whip cracking, silks/aerial, acrobalance, hulahoop, and lots more; most are suitable for kids and adults. At night the zone transforms into spectacular choreographed fire performances, and look out for the many roving performers too.

Amazing Range of Activities

The Market is a colorful, spacious area; the central happening ‘home’ of the festival, offering quality, yummy healthy food, a range of wonderful products, and a open mic stage! It’s a great place to catch up with friends over a mouth-watering meal, coffee, juice or snack, and for parents to relax while the children enjoy a variety of activities.

The "Healing Hub – Hauora", offers a wide range of healing experiences from various styles of massage and other bodywork to channeled readings and light workers.

At the Circus Space you will find an extensive program of circus style workshops catering for all ages and abilities, and hosts a spectacular array of fire/LED performers each night throughout the festival.

When we say that the Luminate Festival is Kidz friendly, we mean much more than just 'allowing' Kids to be there with their parents... We actually try to make the event a memorable experience for all the children who come and to support their parents to enjoy being there with them.
