In the mayan wavespell a new cycle begins on 1st feb - Magnetic Seed: with purpose we plant seeds of awareness to flower a new way. With the moon rising towards full moon on Feb 7th, plus a number of favourable planetary and asteriod alignments, the week of 1-8th Feb feels like an energetically appropriate time to gather together and celebrate, and charge ourselves up for the epic year ahead - Luminating 2012 if you like...

Other factors include cooperating with other events here in aotearoa and australia to help create a diverse festival circuit which avoids events being held on the same weekend. Collaborating with other festivals also allows us to bring international musicians and presenters to NZ which otherwise would be quite a challenge to achieve. We also consider the preferences of children and families, and hope that even more will be able to make it this year, at least for a long extended weekend, as monday 6th being waitangi day is a public holiday for all.
