Luminate Festival 2013

30th January- 6th February 2013
Canaan Downs, Takaka Hill, New Zealand/Aotearoa.
Luminate is an earth friendly festival of music, art, dance, creativity and sustainability.

Join us to celebrate the ancient summer harvest festival of Lughnasadgh, midway between the summer solstice and autumn equinox.

Returning for an epic sixth year, Luminate 2013 is a place to re-energise on the dancefloor, participate in workshops, be inspired about living sustainably, receive a massage, join in drumming around the fire, relax with a warm chai, watch an enlightening movie, be in harmony with nature, and celebrate a sense of conscious community.

The music zones at Luminate feature an inspiring and carefully selected line-up of performers from Aotearoa/New Zealand and overseas, taking you on a unique, flowing journey through a diverse range of Live music, World Grooves, Tribal rhythms, Gypsy, Roots, Soul, Folk, Dub, Psytrance, Minimal Tech, Breaks, Dubstep, Glitch, D&B, Progressive, House, Reggae, Ambient, Esoteric beats and more...

Find your rhythm on the two amplified dancefloors (Live Stage and Electronic Zone), get primal with the drums of the Tribal zone, take it horizontal in the Chillout Lounge, or bring an instrument and join in the fun in the Buskers stage.

Knowledge and Inspirational Sharing Sessions (KISS): an extensive programme of workshops covering a wide range of holistic, cultural and environmental topics with a focus on sustainability and self-reliance, including: permaculture & organics, yoga, dance & movement, african drumming, circus skills, poi & juggling, mayan calendar, meditation, harakeke, music production, alternative healing techniques and many more.

There will be no rubbish bins or recycling on site! Be prepared to pack out what you bring in and leave no trace.

Food stalls will serve onto ceramics, and its great to bring your own plate and cup. There is a composting area for biodegradeables and a dishwashing area provided. Timing: Luminate celebrates the ancient summer harvest festival of Lughnasadgh, which dates back at least 2000 years and was celebrated by our ancestors around the world. Being exactly mid way between the summer solstice and autumn equinox, when there is usually an abundance of crops, this was traditionally a joyous time for people to gather together, share food, music, stories, information and send gratitude to the earth mother for looking after us.

Luminate Festival Trust is very grateful to receive additional funding and individual donations. The Trust also very much appreciates all the supporters, in-kind contributors, volunteers and enthusiastic festival-goers from around this beautiful planet who help us manifest this creative vision and conscious gathering of community in the spirit of light and love.

Donations to Luminate Festival Trust are tax deductible as Luminate is a registered charity with donee status (CC43938). Contact us for more information.

Luminate: to spread light, elevate spiritual consciousness, put a smile on your face.
